This national park is located in the central region of the country,
on the northern side of Cocle province. The park has an area of
25275 hectares, and altitudes that oscillate between 800 and 1300
meters above sea level.
The park was named for
General Omar Torrijos Herrea, who died in a plane crash in 1981
on Cerro Marta, one of the mountains in this park.
Like all national parks,
it is administered by the National Authority of the Enviroment ANAM,
which offers facilities to investigators and tourists. The park
is the habitat of the very well-known the golden frog Atelopulos
zeteki and of important vegetal species that constitute the forests
of the park. Here, we can see premontane forests and low montane
forests. The "cloud forests" are so-named for their main
and most beautiful characteristic: a mist that covers the forest.
The cloud forest.
